Chantel Johnson is the current Legislative and Policy Coordinator for California Youth Connection (CYC). As a former foster youth, Chantel has both personal and professional experience with the issues facing foster children and youth in the child welfare and education systems. In her role at CYC , Chantel is responsible for coordinating and monitoring all aspects of the legislative process for CYC’s bills including the budget process. In addition, she is responsible for receiving and interpreting recommendations from CYC’s members to establish annual statewide legislative and policy implementation goals.

Prior to her work at CYC, Chantel participated in the Center for California Studies, Capitol Fellows- Senate Fellowship. During her fellowship, she served in a dual role staffing legislation in the office of Senator Mark- Ridley Thomas (SD- 26) and as a consultant for the Senate Business, Professions, and Economic Development Committee which he chaired.  Her experience also includes interning in the Office of the CA Lieutenant Governor, Associated Student Body President of CSU East Bay, and various other community service and leadership projects.

Chantel has B.A. degrees in Sociology and Political Science from California State University, East Bay and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.
