Director of Policy
Mike is a former foster youth with a Ph.D. in Public Health and a Master of Public Policy degree from UCLA. He went from intermittent, brief periods of homelessness as a youth to being a West Point graduate and U.S. Army officer from 1995-2002. Growing up, he attended 14 schools in three states from K-12. He has lived according to many aspects of the CYC mission and vision, and now he wants to support others as he had been helped.
Mike sees policy change as not just the goal unto itself, but also as the means to accomplish CYC's goals of empowering members and increasing self advocacy. In addition to his policy and training background, Mike also brings project and system management, collaborative approach to supervision, and a strong commitment to youth voice. He is an Emergency Medical Technician and a CPR/First Aid instructor. He taught English Composition as a UCLA teaching associate for 14 quarters, and he taught a range of non-academic courses.
