Who are CYC members?

  • Current or former foster youth
  • Between the ages of 14 to 24
  • Who live in a California county with a CYC Chapter

What are the benefits of being a CYC Member?

  • Meet other amazing foster youth such as yourself.
  • Create change in your local county’s foster care program.
  • Make a positive change the foster care system for not only yourself but other youth too.
  • Speak to the people that make the rules and regulations regarding your stay in foster care.
  • Travel around California.

What do CYC Members do?

  • Members attend meetings at both the local and statewide level to bring the foster youth voice to the table.
  • They attend two local chapter meetings a month.
  • Members identify a problem as their local issue, which they work on together to make a positive change in foster care for their county (with lots of help along the way).
  • They also participate on other committees and workgroups within the organization, such as the Legislative Committee and the Advisory Board.

Members also attend two statewide events a year:

  • The Summer Leadership and Policy Conference focuses on two things (1) learning new skills like chairing a meeting and fundraising and (2) discussing areas of improvement for the foster care system and then developing solutions.
  • The CYC Day at the Capitol focuses on members getting familiar with one or two problem areas in foster care and then presenting their ideas for change in private meetings with their elected officials.
