I am
writing to provide a brief update on developments related to the Governor's
budget proposal to eliminate THP-Plus.
First, a
day of THP-Plus advocacy will be held tomorrow, Tuesday March 2nd
in Sacramento, organized by JBF, CYC and the California Alliance of Child and
Family Services. We will meet with 40 elected officials and public
administrators to send a clear, unequivocal message: don't make 1,400 former
foster youth homeless! There will be a press briefing in Room 127 from
12:30 to 1:30 in the Capitol Building. Please attend and show your support for
this important program.
Second,
the Governor's proposal has been getting considerable negative attention
in the press, summarized below. Please take a moment to read this
coverage and forward it to others who share your concern about the needs of
